Speecys
Speecys Corp. has been developing networked robots powered by the NetBSD operating system since the company was founded in 2001.
Speecys is lead by founder and CEO Tomoaki Kasuga who had previously worked on the famous SONY AIBO. Tomoaki started Speecys in 2001 looking to go beyond the 4 legged robot platform to a more expressive humanoid. In 2003 Speecy's first Networked Robot SPC-001 was released for research to the Academic community - over 150 units were sold in Japan.
Speecys has be working on the humanoid platform and just released the SPC-101C (formerly called MIRAI-RT) which is the beginning platform targeting the software developers and home users. Speecys has in the plans the creation of an even more affordable robot for a wide consumer use.
Speecys has developed the RTML (Robot Transaction Markup Language) for supplying fresh content to the robot. We have also developed the Internet Content Server that will readily provide the necessary data to the robot for each purpose.
Added Note from PlanetSpeecys:
Speecys has been working with Futaba RPU and Servos which you will notice in the specifications is the RS301CR. I currently have the Futaba RBT-1/HPI G-Robot which is using those same servos. In my early research on the Futaba RBT-1/HPI G-Robot I saw on the Futaba Robot page image of the SPC-001. I believe Tomoaki and his group have provided a great influence in Futaba's entry into Robotics.
